What to Eat Your First Week With Invisalign. Simple Tips for a Smooth Start.

Key takeaways
- Stick to soft, cool foods for the first 2–3 days of each new aligner set.
- Take aligners out for anything except plain water, and brush or rinse before putting them back.
- After the first few days there are no long-term food restrictions.
Days 1 to 3: soft, cool and easy
New aligners feel tight while your teeth respond to gentle pressure. Choose soft, cool foods: yogurt, smoothies, eggs, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, soft pasta and soup that isn’t too hot. Skip hard foods like raw apples, nuts and crusty bread for the first 48–72 hours. Soreness usually fades by day four of each new set.
The golden rule: aligners out for anything but water
Coffee and tea stain aligners, and soda can warp them and hold sugar against your teeth. Take them out for every meal, snack and drink other than plain water. Keep a spare case in your bag, car and desk.
Foods that are surprisingly fine
After the first few days, you can enjoy almost anything, even popcorn, corn on the cob and crunchy snacks that braces forbid, as long as the aligners are out while you eat.
Brush before you put them back
Aligners seal food and sugar against your enamel. Brush, or at least rinse with water, before re-inserting them. Patients who build this habit finish treatment with healthier teeth than they started with.
When to call us

“I was a patient of Dr. Herb Casalena for over 25 years. I recently visited his office and met his replacement and could not have been happier or more impressed. She got me out of pain and took care of my issues promptly. I am certain that Herb would be very proud of her and happy that she is here to treat his patients.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions
Can I drink coffee with Invisalign in?+
It's best not to. Coffee can stain aligners and trap sugar against your teeth. Take them out, then rinse or brush before putting them back.
How long does Invisalign soreness last?+
Usually two to three days with each new set, and it lessens as treatment goes on.
Do I have to brush after every meal?+
Ideally yes, or at least rinse well with water before putting your aligners back in.
